{"id":4000,"date":"2020-12-04T10:54:01","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T08:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nd.devservers.co.za\/?p=4000"},"modified":"2020-12-04T10:54:01","modified_gmt":"2020-12-04T08:54:01","slug":"3-dedember-2020-urgent-update-on-water-situation-in-ndlambe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ndlambenew.devservers.co.za\/?p=4000","title":{"rendered":"3 December 2020 Urgent update on Water Situation in Ndlambe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3853 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/nd.devservers.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Ndlambe-Logo-Web.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"95\" height=\"126\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Urgent update on Water Situation in Ndlambe<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The current water situation in Ndlambe is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PORT ALFRED: <\/strong>Water in the Sarel Hayward Dam has fallen below a level where it can be pumped to the Balancing Dam.\u00a0\u00a0 During the past week, a technical team met to assess ways of augmenting water for Port Alfred and looked at ways of getting water from the low level dam.\u00a0\u00a0 The following is being done:<\/p>\n<p>Extracting the remaining water at the Sarel Hayward Dam.\u00a0 A submersible floating pump and pipeline is presently being installed, and this will enable any remaining water to be pumped to the Balancing dam.\u00a0\u00a0 It is estimated that this work will be completed by 18<sup>th<\/sup> December and that the outcome of this project will provide 2Ml of water per day for Port Alfred.\u00a0\u00a0 At current capacity it is estimated 2Ml will be able to be pumped for approximately 20 days.\u00a0\u00a0 Of course, should we have rain in the interim, the picture will change favourably.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality, through its electrical service provider, is repairing a damaged transformer and cables at the East Bank Dune Pumps.\u00a0\u00a0 The transformer and cables were damaged during the recent Eskom power outages.<\/p>\n<p>The Municipality has engaged local farmers to get additional water to supplement existing supplies.\u00a0\u00a0 Two boreholes have been identified as suitable.\u00a0\u00a0 Jo Jo tanks are being installed alongside these boreholes to act as holding tanks.\u00a0\u00a0 Water trucks will fill up from these holding tanks and cart water to the temporary water tanks supplied throughout Port Alfred.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tanks will be serviced daily with water.\u00a0 The Dept of Water and Sanitation has supplied water tanks for the Nemato area.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, repair work to existing infrastructure has been commissioned.\u00a0 The scope of this work will not provide more water for Port Alfred, but it will ensure that when water levels return to normal levels, all infrastructure will be in an excellent condition.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This work includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Repair of damaged pumps<\/li>\n<li>Carrying out work to damaged boreholes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the Municipal Manager confirmed that the Kowie River route from source will be inspected for illegal dams, restricting water flow to Port Alfred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KENTON\/BUSHMANS:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Amatola Water confirmed that reservoirs recorded 75% average capacity over the past week.\u00a0\u00a0 The challenge is the sand extractor units currently out of commission, limited raw water supply capacity.\u00a0\u00a0 However, the plant is operating at between 75% &#8211;
